As teachers, we thrive on vacations, so we only saw it fit that we make the most out of a recent 3-day weekend with an excursion to Krabi, Ko Phi Phi, and Rai Leh (a little island off of Krabi). When you can stay in a hostel for 100 baht a night (roughly 3 dollars), you can live large on a teacher’s salary! Not that we’re complaining or anything! We flew to Krabi, stayed there for one night, a night in Ko Phi Phi, and a night in Rai Leh. Highlights of the trip included longtail boat rides, hiking, and of course, Rock Climbing! Ko Phi Phi was one of the worst hit islands in the Tsunami of 2005. It’s incredible to see how much development they’ve made in just 2 years, but the building continues. Seeing all the new growth, not to mention the Tsunami evacuation signs everywhere, puts you at awe with nature and how powerful it can be. With their signature, colored scarves, the longtail boats are what you see in most tourist books. Surprisingly enough, I rode the boats with no motion sickness attacks. I managed to dope myself up pretty good on Dramamine and enjoyed viewing the island with a groggy, happy point of view. Once we arrived in Rai Leh, we found a great resort for only 6 bucks a night and headed straight to the cliffs! With grigris in hand, water, and our favorite Bob Marley guide (New), we were off to a great start. The cliffs are incredibly impressive, and I found myself scampering up the first climb in no time, although I was shaking like a leaf once I finished….all that adrenaline. Or maybe the Dramamine? Overall, I found Rai Leh to be the highlight of the trip, due to its small size, rock climbing, and awesome sunset views. Plus! There were only dirt roads...just what I love! :) Overall, it was a great opportunity to get out of the city and breathe....fresh air! Ahhhhhhh!!
Arriving in Ko Phi Phi...these are called Longtail boats...notice the brightly-colored scarves at the front of the boat!

Thai Bunk Beds? Notice the baby sleeping on the bottom bunk! :)

Note to self...remember where Evacuation route can be found!

Hiking through the jungle...I love it!

We made it!

Pre-Sunset View from the hike up Ko Phi Phi

We're obviously on the wrong side of the island for this sunset, but it's still awesome!

All the basic essentials for rock climbing baby!

Getting started!

Wait? What foot do I use?!
